Synthetic Species

August 19, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

- Free

Synthetic Species will be an outdoor art installation and scavenger hunt created by artist Liza Labarge Paige. These “invasive species” will be a group of large-scale sculptures made from collected, manipulated, and up-cycled plastics. Each sculpture will appear as a growth of organic shapes. They will be placed within the natural landscape of Garner Park in Potsdam which will allow them to stand out as an abnormal invasive species. The colorful plastic heaps will consume the environment, including floating on water, peeking from tall fields, and bulging from the ground. This outdoor art installation will also be a community scavenger hunt! Participants will be able to stroll from the Children’s Museum to Garner Park and try to spot the invasive Synthetic Species. One of the sculptures will be set up for visitor interaction. Clues on social media will help you find the sculptures. Take a selfie with all the sculptures, share on the Children’s Museum’s Facebook Page and win a prize at the museum! Rain date is Saturday, August 26th, 12pm-4pm. We will also set up the installation in Ives Park on Saturday, August 26th from 6pm-7pm.

No need to preregister. Program included with membership and admission.
