STEM Program: Lava Lamps

Clarkson Society of Women Engineer members will show the kids how to make simple lava lamps from common household ingredients. Using mason jars, oils, and food dies a colorful lava lamp will be made! In addition to making these lava lamps to take home, SWE will explain the chemistry behind how lava lamps work.

Puppet Program

Create felt puppets using a variety of colors and materials to create your own creature. After creating puppets, visitors will perform a puppet show in the museum’s new puppet theater.

Family Art Workshop – Encaustic Painting

Make your own Encaustic (wax) painting and learn about the process of Encaustic painting using old candles and crayons to make beautiful works of art. Don't forget to layer and scrape the wax to get the desired effect you're working towards!

Reptiles Alive! After School Club

8 week after school club for grades 1 - 4. Each session will focus on a different reptile that the kids will have a chance to meet and hold. SUNY Potsdam biology students will be on-hand to help guide kids through the amazing world of these cold-blooded creatures. Parents drop-off and pick up.

Preschool Program – Shadow Puppets

This workshop focuses on playing with light and shadows to tell stories. Children will create their own shadow puppets and then use them to create a their own stories.

Animation After School Club

Animation Studio After school club for grades 5 & 6. Kids will experiment with stop-motion and digital animation by working on ipads in teams to explore this fun art medium. In collaboration with SUNY Potsdam's Gibson Gallery and St. Lawrence University's Brush Gallery's current exhibition "Sewn in Protest" we will learn about the Chilean Arpilleras.
